Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Four Blue Jays score as field hockey breaks into win column at York (Pa.)

YORK, Pa. — In a matter of 14 minutes, the Elizabethtown College field hockey team put up four goals at York (Pa.) Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup. The Blue Jays, defeated by the Spartans 2-1 in overtime a season ago, got some redemption and earned its first victory of the year with a 5-1 win.

3:13 into the contest, Kelsey Detweiler took a feed from Jacki Hikes and finished from the middle for her first career goal in a field hockey uniform. Detweiler is also a member of the women's track and field team.

From there, Elizabethtown (1-2) was off and running. A little over two minutes later, Nicole Leaf scored her first of the season, ripping a shot past the goalie from the top of the circle to put EC ahead 2-0.

A goalie change for York (Pa.) (2-2) wasn't the answer for the Blue Jays newfound offensive outburst, as Alyssa Aichele deposited her first of two goals with 10:03 gone in the first half. The senior forward collected a loose ball and sent a shot into the right corner for the score.

Aichele used some steady hand-eye coordination to redirect Megan Eppley's shot into the cage for her second and Eppley's first point as a Blue Jay.

York (Pa.) wasn't a pushover by any means, as the Spartans and Blue Jays finished with eight shots apiece in the first half, and YCP actually outshot E-town in the game, 17-16.

Margo Donlin was the difference-maker, making a career high ten saves total, five coming in each half.

Up 4-0 at the half, the Jays were sitting comfortably the rest of the way with Donlin's performance in goal. E-town tacked on a fifth goal from its fourth different player, Andrea Keady, with less than ten minutes remaining in the game. Keady finished off a pass from Allie Patterson, who registered her first career assist on Keady's first of the year.

Elizabethtown returns home to Wolf Field for another non-conference game. They will DeSales on Saturday, September 12 at 1 p.m.
