Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Offense stays hot as field hockey blanks DeSales

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Not even the rain could cool down the Elizabethtown College field hockey team's torrid offense of late, as the Blue Jays put up another five-spot, shutting out DeSales 5-0 Saturday afternoon on a wet and soggy Wolf Field. Five different players recorded points for E-town.

Elizabethtown's (2-2) scored in the first four minutes for the second straight game. Jacki Hikes inserted the first penalty corner of the afternoon and the ball found its way back to the stick of the senior forward as she put in her second goal of the season. Kelsey Detweiler controlled the ball in the center of the circle and dished it down to the left post to Hikes for the easy score.

The Jays kept DeSales' (0-4) goalie Savanna Lacek busy, peppering the freshman with 31 shots in the game, 17 on goal. Lacek made 12 saves, 11 coming in the second half.

E-town's second goal of the game was nearly a mirrored version of the first. Andrea Keady had the ball in the center near goal and dumped it down to Alyssa Aichele, who scored in her third consecutive game. Aichele waited by the left post, got the feed from Keady, and scored her fourth of the season and first of two in the game.

Hikes returned the favor to Detweiler for the first goal of the second half, taking the ball to the right endline, crossing in front of the goal where Detweiler got her stick to the ball and scored her second of the season. Hikes then got her second of the game on Nicole Leaf's assist. Aichele finished the scoring with a minute left in the game.

Margo Donlin and Hannah Mack combined for the shutout. Donlin made two saves while Mack was only needed for one. Hikes made a defensive save late in the game to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.

E-town will take the momentum it has built off the past two games and go into Tuesday's non-conference matchup with nationally-ranked Ursinus with some confidence. The Blue Jays and Bears will start play at 7 p.m.

The win moves Elizabethtown within two victories of No. 600.
