Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Eneme the hat-trick hero, Jays down defending champion Catholic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Steve Eneme and Gilbert Waso wreaked havoc amongst the Catholic defense Saturday night in opening Landmark Conference contest for the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team. Eneme recorded a second-half hat trick as E-town dropped four goals on the defending champions in the final 45 minutes.

Catholic (2-5, 0-1 Landmark) controlled the midfield play for the beginning stages of the game, not allowing Elizabethtown (6-1, 1-0 Landmark) to link from its back to line to the forwards in rhythm.

Rodrigo Barrera stopped a trio of shots through the first 12 minutes to keep the Jays and Cardinals level. Jeff Light and Waso both had shots blocked minutes apart.

While Catholic continued its pressure offensively, the Blue Jays seized momentum on Shane Votto's first goal of the season. Light sprinted in with the ball down the left side of the box near the endline, crossed back toward the penalty spot where Votto awaited the pass and buried the shot into an open net.

E-town took control for the remainder of the half and only allowed the Cardinals one shot attempt over the final 25 minutes before the break. The Jays led 1-0 at the intermission.

Eneme was a force in the second half, starting right away 39 seconds in with a shot on goal that required a defensive save from Cam Linnville to keep it 1-0. Moments later, a header from Eneme was stopped by goalie Zachery Tashjy.

Martin Fevre buried a penalty kick in the 60th minute after Rathsam was tackled in the box going for a loose ball.

Shortly thereafter, Eneme took a feed from Waso, dribbled right, cut back left to shed a defender and beat the keeper left side for his first career goal. 22 seconds later, it was nearly the same exact play as Waso found Eneme in the box. He made a defender miss and beat the goalie inside the left post for his second of three.

With less than ten minutes to go, E-town up 4-2 after Catholic's Tyler Zimmerman connected on a penalty kick for the Cardinals, Eneme completed the hat trick off an assist from Light, his second of the night.

Barrera made a total of six saves in the contest to earn his sixth win of the season. Tashjy also had six saves for Catholic.

The men's soccer team will travel to Reading, Pa. to take on former MAC foe Alvernia in the annual Kicks for Cancer game, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23.
