No. 22 Blue Jays doubled up by No. 4 F&M, 4-2

LANCASTER, Pa. – Fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshall scored two first half goals and built a three-goal lead before sending 22nd-ranked Elizabethtown to its first loss of the season, 4-2, Wednesday night in the Smith-Herr Boot rivalry game at Tylus Field.

Martin Fevre had a three-point night with a goal in the 53rd minute and an assist on Shane Votto's in the 66th.

Though outshot 11-3 in the first half, the Blue Jays (5-1) were able to possess the ball for good chunks of time early in the half and a Tyler Colasanto blast in the seventh minute nearly ricocheted in before being cleared away at the left post.

F&M would strike at 20:10 of the first when Jason Tonelli deflected a shot from Janse Schermerhorn past a fallen Rodrigo Barrera. Barrera made a point blank save on the Diplomats' (6-0) Ugo Okolie, but could do little to recover in time to stop Tonelli in front.

In the 32nd minute, the Diplomats went ahead by two when a Chase TenBrook shot banked off the right post and in. Okolie assisted, starting a big night for the tandem.

Okolie added insurance in the 52nd minute with his third marker of the season, and though Fevre briefly cut F&M's lead to 3-1 in the 53rd, TenBrook found the back of the net again in the 60th to make it 4-1.

Elizabethtown made things interesting when Votto's header off Fevre's free kick in the 66th minute beat Dips keeper Trevor Britton (three saves) to the upper left corner.

Barrera made four saves in the loss, his and E-town's first in six games. The Blue Jays moved into the NSCAA Division III Poll Tuesday.

Franklin & Marshall outshot the Jays 17-9 and had a 4-1 advantage in corners. Fevre, a senior defender, was responsible for a third of Elizabethtown's offensive attempts. F&M improved to 4-0-1 in the last five Smith-Herr Boot games dating back to 2009. The game was canceled in 2010 due to weather and the Diplomats have been ranked in each of the last four meetings.

Elizabethtown gets a crack at the defending Landmark champions from Catholic Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in their conference opener at Ira R. Herr Field.
