Frey and Clark reach milestones, men's lacrosse completes unbeaten season in the Landmark

MADISON, N.J. – Matt Frey recorded his team record 100th caused turnover, Joe Clark scored his 100th career point and Elizabethtown men's lacrosse completed its first undefeated regular season in conference play Saturday, closing the regular season with a 12-5 victory at Drew.

The Blue Jays sent a message from the opening face-off, scoring the first five goals in a span of 6:52 during the first quarter.

Russell LeClair opened the run, whipping in a pass from Jimmy Waters with 9:39 to go in the quarter for his 32nd goal of the season.

Nick Specht followed with his 11th and Clark scored a man down at 4:36 for a 3-0 lead. Connor Rowe and LeClair added to the lead before the period was over.

In all, five players: Clark, Cody Larkin, LeClair, Rowe and Specht registered a pair of goals for the Blue Jays (14-2, 7-0 Landmark), which won their 13th straight game.

Near the end of the first half, freshman Kyle Coats broke through for his first career goal. It helped E-town maintain a healthy 7-2 lead.

Frey pressured the Rangers into three turnovers in the first half, including the 100th of his career that surpassed Mike Kenneally's former school record of 99, with 8:11 to play in the second quarter. He would add one more in the closing moments of the third.

The senior defenseman wasn't the only Blue Jay hitting the century mark. Clark, a sophomore attackman from Hershey, scored E-town's first goal of the third quarter for his 100th point. He totaled two goals and two assists on the afternoon.

Clark's 62 points this season (39 goals, 23 assists) are fifth most in a season in team history and just 11 shy of Aaron Weber's school record of 73, set in 2009. His 39 goals are now tied with hall of famer Frankie Puzzangara's total from 2007 for fifth.

Kevin Meakim scored a third quarter goal and Larkin tallied on the man advantage in the fourth.

Drew (2-11, 0-7 Landmark) was 3-of-9 with the extra man, with two goals coming from Harry Rice.

Behind 12 shots from LeClair and nine from Clark, Elizabethtown outshot Drew 47-22, including 30-4 over the first and fourth quarters.

Luke Stephens forced four turnovers and picked up a game-high eight ground balls. Frey added five ground balls for the Landmark's stingiest defense.

Chris Wenger made four saves for his 12th win of the year, while his counterpart, Drew's Teddy Sweeney, did an admirable job stopping 15 Blue Jay shots.

Elizabethtown will open the Landmark Conference Championships as the No. 1 seed Wednesday at 4 p.m., when it hosts No. 4 Catholic in a semifinal game at Wolf Field.

Live stats and video will be available on BlueJays.TV for E-town's first home playoff game since 2010.
