Blue Jays fly past Misericordia

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Elizabethtown College men's tennis team continued its recent run of strong play, shutting out Misericordia, 9-0, Thursday afternoon at the Alumni Courts for its fourth win in its last five matches.

Before either team served, the Blue Jays were already up 2-0, as the Cougars could not fill their lineup, dropping No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default.

Michael Cannon and Alex Machalick jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, downing Eric Correll and Robert Knipper 8-1 at first doubles.

Things weren't as easy at No. 2, where Ryan Caris and Nathan Dowling rallied from three games down (4-1) to prevail 8-6 over Christian Pugliese and Nicholas Hendry.

Elizabethtown (4-11) won the five contested singles matches in convincing fashion.

Machalick started with a 6-2, 6-2 sweep of Correll and Evan Hinkley followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Samarth Shah. The Blue Jays didn't drop more than three games in any set of singles.

Cannon dropped Pugliese 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, and No. 3 Michael Yost was a 6-2, 6-0 victor over Hendry. Dowling capped the 9-0 win, 6-3, 6-2, over Knipper at No. 4.

E-town concludes Landmark play tomorrow afternoon at 4 against Merchant Marine.
