LVC doubles up men's tennis

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Lebanon Valley jumped in front with a 2-1 lead after doubles and added four wins in singles to defeat Elizabethtown for the first time in nine tries, 6-3, Thursday afternoon at the Alumni Courts.

Michael Cannon and Alex Machalick won their No. 1 doubles match, 8-4, over LVC's Jordan Shankroff and Nick Jones, but the Dutchmen responded with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The third pairing of Brent Greco and Christian Grove defeated E-town's (0-6) Michael Yost and Marty Rodgers, 8-1, while Sam Calabria and Cody Manmiller knocked off Nathan Dowling and Evan Hinkley, 8-5, at No. 2.

Machalick outlasted Calabria in three sets to win second singles. The sophomore from Mountain Top, Pa., came back from a 6-3 loss in the first set to take the final two, 6-2 and 6-4.

Yost also went three to beat Greco, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, but the Dutchmen (4-5) won the remaining four matches.

Elizabethtown will travel to Juniata Monday for a Landmark Conference match at 2 p.m.
