Blue Jays get back in win column against Drew

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown won for the third time in its last four matches by sweeping doubles and splitting singles to hold off Drew, 6-3, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Alumni Courts.

The win improves E-town's record to 3-11 (2-5 Landmark), while the Rangers fall to 4-9 (1-6 Landmark).

Michael Cannon and Alex Machalick, the Blue Jays' top tandem, registered an 8-3 win over Tommy Butschi and Adam Clark to equal their record at 10-10 on the season. The combo of Michael Yost/Evan Hinkley quickly followed with an 8-2 decision over Olle Verschoof and Luke Decker at third doubles for a 2-0 lead.

Ryan Caris and Nathan Dowling put E-town in even better position to grab a win by grinding out a 9-7 win over Sal Sclafani and Scott Vander Veen at No. 2.

In singles, Machalick, Caris and Dowling emerged with victories for the Blue and Gray.

Machalick had his way with Butschi 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2, while Caris flip-flopped the numbers to beat Jonnie Singleton 6-4, 6-2 in their flight four match.

Dowling had to go to the tiebreaker in the first set, but won it and used the momentum to withstand Sclafani 7-6 (9), 6-3.

Cannon, one of two seniors honored before the match, fell 6-4, 6-4 to Clark, but still went 1-1 on the day with his doubles win. Ricky Meyers, the Jays' other senior, got into the singles lineup at No. 6 and won his first collegiate set 6-2 against Decker, but eventually fell 2-6, 6-3, 10-1.

Elizabethtown has a busy week ahead to conclude the season, which includes four home matches beginning with Wednesday's non-conference showdown against Messiah.
