Davis pitches complete game as Jays split with Drew

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Kristopher Davis remained unbeaten on the season after holding Drew to one run in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday for the Elizabethtown College baseball team. Davis pitched all seven innings while the Blue Jays' offense provided some run support for their ace in the 6-1 victory. Game two did not go quite as well as the Rangers racked up 23 hits en route to a 14-1 win to salvage a split going into Sunday's rubber match.

Drew (11-19, 9-8 Landmark) was able to grab a run off Davis in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Bobby Miskura's only hit of the game brought home Jonathan Rodrigues to put the Rangers ahead.

Davis retired the side in order with a pair of strikeouts and a groundout in the fourth, then watched as his batters put him in line to get the win.

Luke Gatti and Aaron Rahn both got on base safely to start the bottom half of the fourth. A sac bunt moved each runner up a base and then Colby Smith brought them both home with a one-out, two-run single to right center to put the Jays in front 2-1.

Tyler Weary drew a one-out walk in the fifth and eventually scored on Nick Lorenz's single down the right field line as Elizabethtown (21-11, 11-6 Landmark) began stretching its lead in support of Davis.

Once again, Davis retired the side in order before watching E-town tack on another three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Alex Holbert tripled to center, scoring both Ryan Shirk and Kyle Fackler. Holbert then scored on a throwing error as E-town extended the lead to 6-1.

Drew was able to get a runner into scoring position in the seventh, but with two outs, Davis got Rodrigues to line out to right field to end game one and move to 6-0 on the year.

Game two became a different story for the Jays. The Rangers pounded out 23 hits and scored 14 runs while E-town held to just one, which came in the first inning.

Luke Gatti grounded out to second, but it was enough to allow Kyle Fackler to score from third. Tommy Broyles went the distance for Drew, scattering five hits over his seven innings and striking out seven. Fackler was 2-for-2 for the Blue Jays.

Alex Holbert and Colby Smith recorded hits, as did Luiny Monegro, who got his first career hit in a pinch-hit appearance in the seventh inning, singling up the middle.

The Blue Jays and Rangers will finish off their series tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m. Elizabethtown will also host its Senior Day before the rubber match.
