Caris wins epic battle at No. 4, but Goucher bests men's tennis

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Ryan Caris came from a set down to outlast Midori Fujitani 4-6, 6-4, 16-14 in the longest tiebreaker of the season for Elizabethtown, but visiting Goucher stayed unbeaten in Landmark play with an 8-1 win over the Blue Jays Monday afternoon at the Alumni Courts.

Caris snapped a six-match skid with his second win of the season. He's gone to a third set or tiebreaker three times this season, and in two of E-town's (0-10, 0-4 Landmark) last three matches. Caris, from Aston, denied Fujitani his seventh consecutive win. Fujitani led Goucher (11-4, 5-0 Landmark) in wins with 13 coming into the match.

The Gophers were able to win the remaining eight matches, though the Blue Jays put up a good fight throughout the afternoon.

At No. 2 doubles, Caris and Dowling fell to Fujitani and Jack Hodges by an 8-6 score. No. 6 singles representative Evan Hinkley won his opening set over Josh Goldberg, before falling 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 in another super tiebreaker.

Alex Machalick came up just a bit short in his bid to knock off Hodges at second singles, dropping both sets 6-4.

Elizabethtown faces Susquehanna tomorrow in Selinsgrove at 4 p.m.
