Scranton (10-7, 4-2 Landmark) had its lead runner on in two of the first three innings while getting runners in scoring position in the first, second, and third innings, but could not produce any runs off starting pitcher Laura Tomasetti.
Â
The Royals were looking to strike in the top of the first with runners at second and third, but Tomasetti got Shanna Schaeffer to pop up to Payton Marunich to end the scoring threat.
Â
Tomasetti's counterpart, Morgan Rentzheimer, was dealing just as she was. The freshman retired the side in order in two of the first three innings.
Â
Scranton broke through in the fourth with three runs on four hits to take the 3-0 lead. Elizabethtown (8-14, 3-3 Landmark) got a run back in the bottom half of the fourth on Jess White's RBI single to left center, scoring Marunich from second after she reached on an error and advance to second. The Jays had the bases loaded in the fourth, but Rentzheimer got the final out to prevent further damage.
Â
An inning later, E-town rallied with two runs to tie it up at 3-3. Becky Becher singled to lead off the fifth for the Jays. Marunich hit a one-out base knock to center and advanced to second on the throw. A batter later, White brought them both home with a two-RBI double to right.
Â
The Royals got those two runs back right away, manufacturing a pair in the top of the sixth to retake the lead, 5-3.
Â
Elizabethtown rallied for a run in the seventh as White collected her fourth RBI of the game on a single down the right field line, scoring Blass. White and Marunich were both in scoring position, on second and third, with only one out, but Rentzheimer didn't fold, getting the final two outs to preserve the one-run victory.
Â
Both starting pitchers went the distance for complete games. Tomasetti struck out two batters and surrendered five runs, dropping her to 4-6.

Â
Keli Krause had it going on from the start of game two. Krause wound up striking out ten batters, the third time this season she's reached at least ten K's. The junior struck out the side in the second and had at least one K in six of eight innings pitched.
Â
Kaylee Werner singled up the middle in the bottom of the first as E-town jumped ahead 1-0. Two batters later, Krause helped her own cause with a two-run single, bringing home Werner and White.
Â
Marunich picked up her sixth RBI of the year in the second inning. Blass had singled to shortstop, then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Marunich made contact on a 1-2 count and blooped a single to center field, plating Blass to make it 4-0 Blue Jays.
Â
The Royals got one run in the third and fifth innings to halve the E-town advantage. Meanwhile, the Jays were making the four runs hold up despite being held off the scoreboard over the next five innings after the second.
Â
An RBI double from Gabrielle Santarelli brought Scranton within a run at 4-3 and gave the Royals runners at second and third. Kaitlyn Pittsman hit a grounder deep in the hole at shortstop, and while one run score, Blass alertly threw the ball home to Kelsey Brown as Santarelli attempted to score from second on the play.
Â
Krause retired the side in order in the eighth inning, which included her final two punch outs, to give E-town a chance to win it in the bottom half of the inning.
Â
Brown singled to shortstop and moved up to third on Maeve McGill's base hit. With one out, it set the stage for the team's leading hitter, Becher. The senior drove the ball deep enough to center field to allow Brown to scoot home from third and give Elizabethtown the walkoff victory in eight innings.
Becher, 2-for-4 in game one, went 1-for-3 in game two to extend her hit streak to five games. She has reached safely in nine of her past ten games and is at a .403 batting average for the season. Krause moved her record to 3-5.
The softball team is back at The Nest for a non-conference doubleheader with Lancaster Bible on Wednesday, April 15 beginning at 3 p.m.Â
