Fast start drives wrestlers to 25-20 win at King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Elizabethtown built a 16-0 lead and used bonus points in five bouts, including technical falls from Chad Lammer (141) and Zeke Zimmer (174) to grab a 25-20 road victory at King's (Pa.) Friday evening.

John Archangelo's 12-7 decision over Jake Daniel at 125 sent the Blue Jays (4-11) on their way, as the visitors collected wins in each of the first four weight classes to go in front 16-0.

Coming off a sixth-place showing at the Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational last weekend, junior Bryan Pflanz earned his 10th win of the season with a 10-2 major decision over Matt Sparks. Pflanz's win was followed quickly by Chad Lammer's 17-1 thumping of Kevin Kelly at 141.

Mike Lammer made it an even better night for the family, tacking on four points to the Jays' ledger after a 12-4 major decision victory against Giacomo Dinacola at 149.

Though the Monarchs (4-15) closed the gap to 16-11 on a fall by Howard Kilpatrick at 157 and a tech fall from Keith Wanamaker at 165, the Blue Jays wasted little time responding.

Zeke Zimmer earned E-town's second tech fall of the night in a 15-0 blanking of Nathaniel Seals, as the 174-pounder won his team-leading 23rd match of the year.

Luke Fernandez made it 25-11 for the Blue Jays with his third major decision of the year, 15-3, over Zachary Smith. Fernandez and Chad Lammer both won their 16th matches of 2014-15 Friday, tied for second behind Zimmer.

Elizabethtown improved to 3-1 in road duals with its win. The Blue Jays still have a home dual with nationally-ranked Messiah next Friday and one on the road at Muhlenberg Feb. 18, before heading to the Mideast Regional Championships March 1. They'll send a number of wrestlers who didn't compete this evening to Messiah tomorrow for the Messiah Open.
