Trama named Landmark Men's XC Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. — Zach Trama of the Elizabethtown College men's cross country team was honored Thursday as the Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete. Trama is the recipient a year after former teammate Dan Gresh received the same honor, giving E-town its second consecutive men's XC scholar athlete.

The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. Trama, an actuarial science major from West Chester, Pa., was selected as the most deserving senior based on the accomplishments he compiled during his career.

Trama was the conference's top runner, winning the Landmark individual title on Halloween and helping Elizabethtown to its second consecutive conference championship. He was also named the league's Performer of the Year and All-Landmark First Team. Trama was only just beginning, however, as he went on to a fourth-place All-Mideast Region finish on November 14, the highest of his career.

A week later, the Blue Jays captain made sure to cap off his illustrious career at the NCAA Division III Championships in Wisconsin as an All-American. Trama placed 26th out of 280 at the NCAA meet, running an 8,000-meter personal best of 24:48.9.

A three-time all-conference performer, Trama also stands out in his academics. Between the MAC and Landmark, he is a three-time league Academic Honor Roll selection. Trama has earned a 3.77 cumulative grade point average while working toward his degree in actuarial science. He was named USTFCCCA All-Academic in 2013 and 2014, and is expected to be a three-time honoree later this year.

Landmark Senior Scholar Athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of conference officers, athletic directors, and sports information directors.
