WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Brothers Chad Lammer and Mike Lammer each went 3-0 with a pair of pins Saturday as the Elizabethtown wrestling team went 2-1 in the New York/Pennsylvania Duals at King's College. The Blue Jays defeated Merchant Marine, 34-9, and blanked Hunter, 53-0, before falling to No. 15 New York U., 30-12.

Elizabethtown (2-2) blew its match against Merchant Marine open early with victories in the first six weight classes and pins in the first four. Dan Smith got things started with his first career victory, a 5:47 pin over Mike Mui, at 125. Bryan Pflanz pinned Taylor Kimo Dial in 6:42 of their 133-pound match and Mike Lammer needed just 47 seconds to throw six more points up on the board for the Blue and Gray with a fall of Dan May at 141.

Chad Lammer also scored a first period pin at 149, downing Chad Puglio in 1:18. Decisions by Adam Smith and Chris Kummerer extended E-town's lead to 30-0 over the Mariners and Rocco Hladney posted an 8-1 major decision over Dan Dubinsky at 184. Luke Fernandez battled Ricky Fisher, ranked No. 6 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), tough, but fell by a point, 3-2, at 197.

The Blue Jays added three more pins and got the benefit of four Hunter forfeits to earn their first dual shutout in almost eight years. Adam Smith (149), Chad Lammer (157) and Quinn Ruble (174) collected falls for the Jays. Hladney scored 16 unanswered points en route to a tech fall at 184, and Pflanz (133) and Kummerer (165) won by decision. Elizabethtown's last shutout prior to Saturday came against Waynesburg (56-0), Nov. 17, 2007.

NYU denied Elizabethtown a perfect afternoon, but the Blue Jays were in the match up until the midway point. Mike Lammer pinned Anthony Clavano in 6:13 at 141 and Chad Lammer edged Richy Cruz, 5-4, at 149 to bring E-town back from 9-0 down to tie it.

The Violets would open up a 15-point lead from there, however, winning the next four weight classes with bonus points from a major decision and technical fall, along with two decisions.

Fernandez avenged his earlier one-point loss by beating P.J. Steinmetz, 3-2, for Elizabethtown's final points of the match.

Elizabethtown's dual schedule doesn't get any easier moving forward. The Blue Jays will be at nationally-ranked Wilkes Friday for a 7 p.m. start.
