Garner named All-Landmark Second Team

TOWSON, Md. – Freshman middle hitter Mackenzie Garner, Elizabethtown's leader in kills and blocks, was named to the All-Landmark Conference Women's Volleyball Second Team Tuesday afternoon.

Garner, who finished her rookie season with 309 kills and 66 total blocks, was one of just five players in the conference to average better than three kills per set (3.03). The Huntingdon, Pa., native ranked eighth in the league in total kills and 10th with a .234 hitting percentage (309 kills-137 errors-735 attempts).

A focal point of the Blue Jay offense, Garner registered double-digit kills 18 times and topped 20 kills on two occasions. She set a new career-high with 23 kills at Scranton Oct. 3, and had 21 at Lebanon Valley Oct. 24.

Garner flourished over Elizabethtown's final four matches, averaging 4.35 kills per set with 74 in 17 sets, including a 19-kill performance and .516 hitting percentage in a three-set sweep of Montclair State Oct. 24.

Defensively, Garner averaged 0.65 blocks per set. Her 66 total blocks were tied for sixth in the Landmark and her 17 solo denials seventh. Garner had at least one block in 26 of the 29 matches she played, with a season-high six at Lycoming Sept. 11.

Elizabethtown finished the 2015 season with an 18-14 record. Garner is the second Blue Jay to be named All-Landmark after Kelci Scannapieco '15 took First Team honors last fall, E-town's inaugural season in the conference. The program has produced at least one all-conference player every season since 2003.
