Light stays hot, No. 21 Blue Jays drop Susquehanna 3-1

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Jeff Light scored both second half goals for No. 21 Elizabethtown as it remained unbeaten in Landmark Conference play with a 3-1 win over Susquehanna at Ira R. Herr Field Wednesday evening.

Last year Light's scoring outburst came in one game, as he recorded a hat trick and an assist in a rout of Juniata. That has not been the case for the junior this season. Light has flashed his offensive prowess on a more consistent basis, tallying points in 6-of-12 games, but his last two have especially raised the bar.

Following a goal and an assist Saturday against Moravian, Light found the scoresheet early Wednesday setting up Gilbert Waso's team-leading ninth goal in the 20th minute. The Blue Jays (10-1-1, 4-0 Landmark) would carry that 1-0 lead to the half before Eric Dempsey sniped a shot into the upper left corner past Rodrigo Barrera in the 52nd minute to bring Susquehanna even.

The goal by Dempsey was the first from an opponent against Barrera in five games and more than 404 minutes going back to a 5-2 victory over Catholic Sept. 19.

Susquehanna (6-4-2, 1-1-2) played the Blue Jays tough from the start. The Crusaders came in with a win and two ties in their previous three Landmark games and were 4-0-2 overall in their last six.

In the 75th minute, Elizabethtown was finally able to reestablish its lead.

Freshman Tyler Colasanto put a pass right at Light's feet and the Hershey native slammed it past SU keeper Augusto Lima for a 2-1 advantage. Another newcomer, sophomore Sam Feehrer, would set up Light in the 81st minute with Light heading the ball off Lima's hands, then the crossbar, and into the net.

Elizabethtown outshot the Crusaders 19-15 and earned six corners to SU's two. Light finished with four shots, as did Waso, in victory No. 495 for 33rd-year head coach Skip Roderick, who is aiming to become the seventh coach in NCAA Division III history to reach 500 wins and 12th in all NCAA divisions.

The Blue Jays also continued their all-time mastery of Susquehanna, improving to 54-1-1 in 56 meetings. Saturday they'll travel to Merchant Marine for a noon start.
