Scranton bests women's soccer in overtime

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team was looking to close out its regular season on a high note against Scranton, but the Royals had other plans, taking not only the win but also second seed and home field in the Landmark Conference semifinals.

Elizabethtown (11-6-1, 5-2 LC) celebrated its six seniors on Saturday; Dana Robidoux, Trisha Clark, Lauren Berry, Lauren Fredericks, Kaceyanne Cerankowski, and Kara Weller.  The Jays had already clinched a spot in the upcoming Landmark Conference playoffs, but were trying to obtain the ever-important second seed in order to host Scranton on home turf in Wednesday's semifinal game.

The game started and stayed competitive in its entirety as both teams fought for possession of the ball. The Jays finished with just one more shot than Scranton (12-3-2, 5-1-1 LC).

In the opening minutes of the second half, Robidoux saved a ball that was headed for the back of the net. The ball came from a corner kick that found the head of Hannah DeMars. Her header seemed destined for the goal, but Robidoux sprawled across and dove to the left to get her fingertips on the ball to parry it out of harm's way.

The game was pushed into overtime after neither team could find a goal in regulation.  With two minutes remaining in the first overtime period, Scranton scored the winning goal as Kelly Egan scored her sixth goal of the season to spoil Senior Day for the Blue Jays.

The women's soccer team will travel to Scranton to face the Royals on Wednesday, November 4 in one of the Landmark semifinals.
