Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey uses late heroics to beat Scranton, clinch Landmark's top seed

SCRANTON, Pa. – Elizabethtown College field hockey got a harsh reminder of how quickly the result of a game can change Wednesday. Saturday, the Blue Jays were the ones handing out the lesson. Two goals in the final 4:59 lifted E-town to a 3-2 comeback victory over Scranton and locked up the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference Championships.

All five goals came in the final 19:21 between two teams who will get reacquainted quickly. Scranton will be the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament and travel to Wolf Field for a semifinal game at 2:30 p.m. this coming Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Sophomore Emma Christman broke a scoreless tie with her seventh goal of the campaign at 50:39 with Allison McLamb assisting.

The Royals (13-4, 4-3 Landmark) got both of their goals from Krista Osborne, the first just 50 seconds after Christman had put the visitors in front.

Osborne's second of the game came with 9:37 to play, putting the Blue Jays in danger of slipping behind either Catholic or Juniata for the top spot in the conference standings.

Jacki Hikes would come through with her 12th goal of the season to tie the game at the 65:01 mark, tapping in a pass from Hannah Heritage off a corner.

With time winding down the Blue Jays got a monstrous goal from senior Alyssa Aichele to take a 3-2 lead. The eventual game winner was knocked in by Aichele with just 1:40 to go and ended up being the game-winner.

Elizabethtown (10-6, 6-1 Landmark) was limited to seven shots, but kept the Royals to just eight.

Margo Donlin made three saves for the Blue and Gray, while Scranton goalie Christina Black had one.
