Jays' win streak snapped by Arcadia

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team hadn't lost in the month of October, winning all four of its games plus the final game of September, but saw that five-game win streak snapped Wednesday night by visiting Arcadia. The Knights outscored E-town 3-1 in the first half and won by the same score.

The teams spent the first five minutes going back and forth in the midfield, trying to establish possession and a rhythm to the opening portion of the game. The first shots of the game came in the seventh minute, both from Arcadia (10-5). Dana Robidoux saved a header by Kayla Haberbosch and a shot from outside the 18-yard box by Jackie Glanfield.

Elizabethtown's (9-5-1) first opportunity came in the eighth minute when Kaceyanne Cerankowski scored her team-leading seventh of the season on the Jays' first shot of the contest.

Trisha Clark acquired the ball in the midfield and looked for her senior winger on the left side. Cerankowski took the delivery from Clark, took a few dribbles to her right and struck a bending ball toward the upper left part of the goal, finding the back of the net to give E-town a 1-0 lead.

That lead would hold up for only 12 minutes, however, as the Knights settled into the game and eventually found the equalizer off the boot of Jess Kelly.

Glandfield put Arcadia up 2-1 in the 33rd minute and two minutes later, Karis Poore scored on a header off Stephanie Maggio's corner. It was 3-1 Knights at the half.

Elizabethtown seemed to shake off its slow start to the game, coming out of the break on a mission. Lauren Fredericks and Lauren Berry each had shots saved by Arcadia goalie Evelyn Feigeles in the opening minutes of the second half.

The Knights weathered the storm and then held E-town in check over the final 25 minutes of the game, not allowing a shot.

Arcadia finished with a 14-10 edge in shots. Robidoux made seven saves in the game while Feigeles had three.

The women's soccer team heads on the road to face Drew on Saturday, October 24 at 3:30 p.m.
