Women's soccer 2-1 winners at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. — A goal in each half was enough to get the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team past Juniata Saturday. Katrina Morales and Lauren Fredericks were the goal scorers, with Fredericks' goal proving to be the game winner in a 2-1 road victory. It was E-town's fifth straight win.

Things were quiet through the first eight minutes of the match until Elizabethtown (9-4-1, 4-1 Landmark) registered the first shot of the game in the ninth minute.

Lauren Berry had the game's first scoring opportunity, but her attempt was saved by Juniata's (5-8-1, 1-4 Landmark) starting keeper Kerry Leonard.

Morales, who has become a core part of the Blue Jays' midfield, struck in the 26th minute for her third of the season. Trisha Clark's shot was blocked, but the rebound came to Morales, who made it 1-0 in favor of the visitors.

The Eagles leveled the conference contest about ten minutes later on Aubrie Christensen's second of the year. It was Juniata's only shot on goal during the first half.

Dana Robidoux made her only save of the game on the first shot of the second half by Maggie Pozenel in the 48th minute to keep the game tied at one apiece.

Kaceyanne Cerankowski had a chance in the 55th minute, but Leonard denied the senior winger the go-ahead goal. The keeper was unable to stop E-town's next shot, however, as the Jays took a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute.

Fredericks, who had one goal through the first 12 games, made it two straight with a goal scored, recording her third of the season to put Elizabethtown in front for good.

The Blue Jay defense allowed just three shots the entire second half and E-town came away with the one-goal victory.

The women's soccer team will host Arcadia on Wednesday, October 21 at Ira R. Herr Field at 7 p.m.
