No. 16 Blue Jays turn back Chargers for Homecoming victory

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The goals didn't come easy on Homecoming, but they eventually came in time to lift 16th-ranked Elizabethtown to a 2-1 non-conference win over Lancaster Bible Saturday at Ira R. Herr Field.

Sam Feehrer and Martin Fevre scored 1:42 apart in the second half for the Blue Jays (12-1-1), who were victorious for the seventh game in a row.

There wasn't much offense to speak of in the first 45 minutes with just seven shots between the teams and no goals. But that all changed in the second.

Edward Bills almost caught the Jays asleep 12 seconds into the second half, sending a shot just wide right.

Feehrer, who fired a game-high eight shots, broke through in the 67th minute when he was left alone near the left post.

A cross in from Brent Batory was batted down by LBC keeper Thiago Naque right to Gilbert Waso. After Waso had a shot blocked, the deflection came right to Tyler Colasanto, who sent a pass to Feehrer for the goal.

Less than two minutes later, on an E-town corner, Martin Fevre scored his seventh goal of the season to pad the lead.

Lancaster Bible (9-3-3) countered in the 78th minute off a set piece, as Arturo Ortega Marcos ripped a shot to the upper left corner, but the Chargers could muster no more, getting outshot 26-4 in the game.

Naque had all seven saves for LBC after coming on in the 29th minute to spell starter Josue Bosque, who was forced to leave with an injury.

Elizabethtown will get back to Landmark Conference play Wednesday at Goucher. Game time is 7 p.m.
