Blue Jays keep pace in Landmark race with win over Moravian

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — A game behind in the race for a top-two seed in the Landmark Conference, the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team controlled its 3-1 win over Moravian from the start and remained a game back of first with Wednesday night's victory.

Lauren Berry put Elizabethtown (8-4-1, 3-1 Landmark) ahead in the 12th minute when she took a pass from Kaceyanne Cerankowski, took two touches to set up her shot and blasted one into the upper left corner of the goal for the opening score of the game. It was Berry's fifth of the season.

E-town kept after Moravian's (3-8-1, 1-3 Landmark) defense, pinning the Greyhounds in their own half of the field. Kara Weller, Lauren Fredericks, and Maria Boretti had scoring chances but couldn't produce a goal.

Dana Robidoux saw her first action of the game in the 27th minute, stopping Moravian's first shot attempt of the game by Val Margiottiello. Robidoux only needed to make two saves before being spelled by Hailey Parks after 81:32 on the field.

In the 37th minute, the ball popped over to Katrina Morales near the top left of the 18-yard box and her one-touch pass set up Fredericks, who was square to Morales, for her second of the season. Fredericks placed her shot top left beyond the reach of the keeper.

The Greyhounds were held without a shot over the final 19 minutes of the first half.

Morales put the Blue Jays up 3-0 after Cerankowski beat her defender down the endline crossed back to the middle where Morales deposited her second of the season into the right side netting in the 49th minute.

Emily Crowley broke up the shutout in the 86th minute, latching on to a loose ball in front of the Jays' net to make it 3-1.

The women's soccer team will head to Juniata on Saturday, October 17 to face the Eagles at 3:30 p.m.
