Kimberly Cosgrove won the 1000-yard freestyle and
Amanda Long the 100-yard breaststroke for the Elizabethtown women's swim team in a 129-71 defeat at Washington College (Md.) Saturday.
Kieran Koehler was the lone winner for the men's team, capturing the 100 breast, in a 131-36 loss.
Cosgrove and Long both swam season-best times in their wins. Cosgrove led wire-to-wire in the 1000 free, where she swam an 11:26.24 to better Washington's Mackenzie Gaze by more than eight seconds. The time was exactly four seconds faster than the senior's previous best of 11:30.24, which she set Nov. 1 at Susquehanna.
Long outswam five opponents en route to a 2.2 second victory in the 100 breast in a time of 1:12.25.
The winning duo also showed well in other events for the Blue Jays (3-4). Long was second in the 50 free (27.26) and Cosgrove third in the 200 free (2:09.13).
A handful of new personal-bests for the 2014-15 season were set Saturday by the women.
Freshman
Dru Schneider registered her best time in the 200 individual medley and
Amanda Robbins did the same in the 100 butterfly.
Rachel Engelhardt (100 free),
Karlie Kimball (100 back) and
Megan Anderson (500 free) all picked up time, too.
For the men, Koehler's 1:07.58 in the 100 breast held off Washington's Finny Dorsch, who was less than a second back with a 1:08.41.
Rookie
David Foery came within half a second of winning the 100 free, but took runner-up honors with a 50.99.
Ethan Weber, swimming exhibition in the 50 free, secured his best time of the season, while
Frank Capria took to the pool for the 1650 free ahead of next month's Landmark Conference Championships.
Elizabethtown hosts McDaniel in its final home meet of the season next Saturday at 1 p.m.
