Gresh makes late gains at NCAA DIII Championships

MASON, Ohio – Running in his first NCAA Division III Championship meet, Elizabethtown senior Dan Gresh moved up late in the 8,000-meter race on the Golf Center at Kings Island course to finish 217th in a time of 26.03.7 Saturday morning.

Gresh was 234th at the first time check, but picked up 17 spots as the race neared a close. He qualified for the national meet with an 18th-place finish at the Mideast Regional last Saturday, also collecting his first all-region honor in the process.

Temperatures hovered in the low 40s on the Mason, Ohio, course, which was relatively flat. Snow from earlier in the week coated the outer edges of the course, but did not seem to affect the 280-man field too much as the running lane was kept relatively clean.

Gresh was competing in his sixth 8k race of the season, and eighth race overall in 2014. Saturday's time was his fourth fastest this season.

The Sewell, New Jersey, product had a breakout senior season. He won the Landmark Championship meet, becoming E-town's fifth conference champion and first since 2011. His regional performance was the best of his career.

Gresh was a three-time all-conference runner, earning All-MAC First Team honors in 2012, All-MAC Second Team accolades in 2013 and an All-Landmark First Team spot this fall.
