Swim teams suffer defeats at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Blue Jay swim teams were limited to just one victory, Kimberly Cosgrove's second in the 1000-yard freestyle in as many meets, in suffering a pair of setbacks to new Landmark rival Susquehanna Saturday. The men were defeated by a 157-52 score, while the women dropped a 157-99 decision.

Cosgrove picked up nearly a second from her win in the 1000 last Saturday against York (Pa.), besting five competitors with an 11:30.24. Her margine of victory was even more dominant against the Crusaders, though, as she won the event by over 35 seconds, bettering her 33-second spread from a week ago.

Amanda Long swam to a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke, also collecting a season-best time by almost one second with a 1:12.66. Fellow junior Bonnie Lisk slightly cut her time in the 100 back, going 1:07.89 to take third in the event.

Freshman Dru Schneider finished runner-up in the 200 breast with a time of 2:45.57 and was fourth in a close 100 breast (1:16.40).

Cosgrove placed third in the 500 free (5:43.80) and Mariselle Parisi picked up almost two-tenths of a second in the 100 free with a season-best 1:02.67.

The Blue Jays fall to 0-2 with the loss, while Susquehanna improved to 1-0.

For the men, Kieran Koehler placed second in both the 100 and 200 breast. Koehler swam 1:07.18 in the 100, just under two seconds off the winning pace of SU's Eric Lawrence (1:05.23).

In the 200, Koehler clocked in with a 2:31.92.

Freshman David Foery slashed nearly half a second off his previous best time in the 100 free, finishing third in 50.86. Foery was also third in the 200 free at 1:56.03.

The Elizabethtown men also dropped to 0-2 in defeat, with the Crusaders earning a victory in their dual opener.

The Blue Jays will travel to FDU-Florham next Saturday for a 1 p.m. start.
