TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. – Florida College, the top-ranked team in the small college United States Collegiate Athletic Association, sent Elizabethtown to a 3-0 defeat (26-24, 25-16, 25-10) Monday night at Conn Gymnasium.
The Blue Jays, on their Fall Break trip, got two kills and four blocks from senior
Kelci Scannapieco in the opening set, as they hung tough with the six-time USCAA national champions, who won three straight titles from 2009-11.
Brynne Kirsch and
Taylor Beck also provided kills in the set and
Jen Cook had five digs.
It was a struggle for Elizabethtown (7-15) to find holes in the Falcons' (14-5) defense. The visitors were limited to 14 kills on 90 attempts in the three-set defeat.
Scannapieco finished with a team-high four kills, followed by
Taylor Beck and
Megan McNaul, who had three each. Kirsch had seven assists and
Steph High five, while Cook wound up with 11 digs.
E-town wraps up its trip to Florida with an exhibition match at Pasco-Hernando State College tomorrow afternoon at 3. The win-loss result and statistics from tomorrow's match do not count toward the Blue Jays' season totals because Pasco-Hernando is transitioning from community college status to a four-year college. A majority of PSHC's matches are not played against four-year degree-granting institutions, thus giving the match its exhibition status.
That is not the case for Monday's opponent, Florida College, however, as the result and statistics do count.
