BETHLEHEM, Pa. –
Jamison MacMain's first goal in an Elizabethtown uniform turned out to be all the Blue Jays would need in a 1-0 Landmark Conference victory at Moravian Saturday afternoon.
Although E-town controlled possession and did not allow a shot on goal, the game remained scoreless into the second half.
Near misses were the story for the Blue Jays (5-3-1, 2-1 Landmark) in the first half as
Andrew Sandridge drilled a post in the 18th minute and
Ryan Somerville hit the crossbar in the 34th.
Elizabethtown had eight shots over the first 45 minutes and really took the game to the Greyhounds (3-6-2, 1-2 Landmark) after the break, outshooting them 15-2 in the second half and 23-5 in the game. The Blue Jays' 23 shots marked a season-high.
Ten minutes into the second half, the Jays pinned themselves deep in Moravian territory.
David Boretti just missed wide on a shot from the right side in the 56th minute and the visitors earned four straight corner kicks.
MacMain, a sophomore transfer from Air Force, broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute, heading in a pass from
Dylan Sisler off one of Elizabethtown's eight corner kicks. Moravian did not attempt a corner in the contest.
Cal Graziano came close to making it 2-0 in the 70th minute, if not for a sliding save from Moravian keeper Brian Boland.
Meanwhile,
Justin Signora was able to enjoy a dominant performance by his teammates en route to his fifth win and second shutout of the season. Signora did not need to make a save against five Greyhound shots that all missed the mark.
Six Blue Jay starters recorded multi-shot games, as did three reserves. Sandridge, Somerville and
Jeff Light had three each.
Elizabethtown's win was its second straight in conference play, a streak it will look to extend Wednesday evening at 7, at Susquehanna.
