Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Somerville scores twice in 4-1 win at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Wednesday was a night of firsts for Elizabethtown men's soccer freshman Ryan Somerville. His first goal, game-winning goal and multi-goal game all came in a crucial 4-1 Landmark Conference win for the Blue Jays at Susquehanna.

E-town, winner of four straight, continued its dominance in the series with the Crusaders, collecting a 53rd win in 55 tries since 1960.

Brent Batory opened the scoring with the first half's only goal, drilling a shot into the upper right for a 1-0 Blue Jays (6-3-1, 3-1 Landmark) lead in the 32nd minute.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Somerville broke through with his first career goal, sending a pass from Jamison MacMain past Susquehanna (4-7-2, 0-4 Landmark) keeper Zach Zoller.

MacMain, forced to miss Elizabethtown's first four games with an injury suffered in preseason practice, has come on strong lately. He scored the game-winner Saturday at Moravian and set up both Somerville goals Wednesday night.

The Crusaders got their collective foot back in the door when Nick Talabiska scored in the 73rd minute from Matt Roberts, but 2:46 later Dylan Sisler answered with his first of the year, from Batory, for a 3-1 Elizabethtown lead.

Somerville would complete the scoring in the 83rd minute, taking a MacMain feed and beating the keeper 1-on-1.

Both teams had four corner kicks, and it was the Crusaders 16 shots besting Elizabethtown's 11, but the Blue Jays were the more opportunistic team in the first ever Landmark meeting between the two old rivals.

Justin Signora made four saves for the Blue Jays, picking up his sixth win of the season in the process. But, the senior was sent off with a costly red card late in the game and will have to miss Saturday's game against Merchant Marine (2 p.m.).

Zoller also made four saves for Susquehanna.

With the win, E-town goes to nine points in the league standings, tied for the top spot with Scranton and Catholic, though the Royals are an unbeaten 3-0, with a league game in hand, and the Cardinals hold the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Blue Jays. Saturday's opponent, Merchant Marine, is one of three teams with six points vying for fourth-place in the conference.
