Kimberly Cosgrove won the 1000-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle back-to-back, supplying the Elizabethtown women's swimming team with half of its victories in a season-opening 112-87 loss to York (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Pool.
The Blue Jays just missed out on a win in the 200 medley relay with
Bonnie Lisk,
Amanda Long,
Ashley Dispenziere and
Tara Deisher's 2:03.11 a mere .24 off York's winning time.
Cosgrove blew away all four of her competitors in the 1000, however, finishing more than 33 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher with a time of 11:31.21. The graduate student would make in wins in two straight events when she outswam York's Kate McConaghy by 1.54 seconds to take the 200 free in 2:09.32
Elizabethtown (0-1) also got a win from Lisk in the 100 backstroke (1:07.97), while Long again showed her strength in the 100 breaststroke ripping off a win in 1:13.61. Freshman
Dru Schneider gave the Jays a 1-2 in the breast with a 1:17.10.
Cosgrove posted a runner-up finish in the 500 free (5:43.66) and Dispenziere was second in the 100 butterfly at a 1:08.43.
Elizabethtown faces Susquehanna in Selinsgrove next Saturday at 2 p.m.
