Jays claim Homecoming victory over Juniata

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team claimed its eighth shutout of the season and third in a row, blanking Juniata 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Ira R. Herr Field. Three different players scored for E-town, who won for the fifth straight game.

Lauren Berry buried her penalty kick in third minute to put Elizabethtown (10-3, 3-1 Landmark) ahead right away. It would be the only goal E-town would get in the first half, despite 15 first-half chances. The Jays outshot Juniata 25-5 in the contest.

Kerry Leonard did her best to keep Juniata (4-7-2, 1-2-1 Landmark) close, saving five shots in the first half and making another three in the second half.

Early in the second half, E-town was able to beat Leonard to double its advantage. Moments after Deanna Slater's shot was stopped by the Eagles' keeper, Maddie Burkhardt delivered the ensuing corner kick right into the center of the box. The ball fell right to Kaceyanne Cerankowski in the six-yard box, and she sent her shot top shelf for her ninth of the season.

A little over a minute later, the Jays tallied again, this time off the foot of Kara Weller. Burkhardt's corner was headed out of the box, but it came right to Weller. Weller took a touch to settle the ball and blasted her shot to the left corner for her first goal of the season.

The Jays defense did its job stifling any Juniata opportunities as Dana Robidoux only needed to make one save. It was Robidoux's fifth shutout of the year.

The women's soccer team will face Moravian on the road, Tuesday, October 21 at 4 p.m.
