Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Blue Jays smother Penn State Berks in 3-0 win

READING, Pa. – Elizabethtown men's soccer used goals from three different players and a commanding 30-5 shot advantage to silence Penn State Berks 3-0 in rainy Reading Thursday evening.

The Blue Jays (7-4-1) were all over the Nittany Lions from the get go. Andrew Sandridge fired four shots in the first half, with Kyle Fowler and Jamison MacMain attempting three each as Elizabethtown outshot Penn State Berks 15-5 before halftime.

MacMain broke the scoreless tie 15:10 in with his second goal of the season, assisted by Fowler. The sophomore's sliding boot into the net would be the only goal of the half, however, as the blue and gray's dominance of possession didn't translate to the scoreboard.

Such would not be the case in the second half. Fowler set up a Sandridge chip shot from 20 yards out in the 60th minute, and Brent Batory ran onto a ball delivered by Scott Hess in the 68th for a 3-0 lead.

E-town did not have to worry about a comeback from the Lions (2-11-1), because it didn't allow a shot over the entire second half. It's the first time the Blue Jays have held an opponent without a shot in a half since Alvernia was blanked in the first half in the teams' Oct. 2, 2010, meeting.

Justin Signora returned from his mandatory one-game abscence following a red card Oct. 8, to earn his seventh win of the season with two saves in 79:28. Rodrigo Barrera played 10 minutes and change to finish off the Jays' fifth shutout of the season.

Sandridge and MacMain collected a game-high five shots, while Fowler had four. The game, which was originally scheduled to be played at Elizabethtown's Ira R. Herr Field Wednesday evening before being postponed, and subsequently moved, due to rain, was win No. 485 in the illustrious career of 32nd year head coach Skip Roderick.

Penn State Berks keeper Kyle Baker, who faced constant pressure throughout, made 12 saves in defeat.

Elizabethtown will hold its annual Alumni Game Saturday on Homecoming at 4:30 p.m.
