Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late goals help men's soccer salvage tie with Goucher

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — After seeing an early lead disappear in the second half, the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team showed some resolve by scoring two goals in the span of a little over a minute at the end of the second half to complete a furious comeback to tie Goucher 3-3 Wednesday night. The Blue Jays are now in a third-place tie in the Landmark Conference with ten points.

An early corner kick lead to a scoring opportunity in the second minute for Elizabethtown (7-4-2, 3-2-1 Landmark). Kyle Fowler's corner delivery went to the far and found the head of Kristopher Davis, who beat his defender in the air and scored his first goal of the season.

Goucher (6-6-1, 2-3-1 Landmark) force E-town keeper Justin Signora into two first-half saves, but could not beat the senior as the game went 1-0 into halftime.

The Gophers squared things up at one apiece on a penalty kick from Nate Margolis in the 54th minute. 15 minutes later they scored to take the lead as Brandon Weiner got a header on Lashaw Salta's set piece for the tally.

Eric Borkowicz nearly tied the game in the 73rd minute, but his effort was tipped over the bar by Goucher goalie Nicholas Stolarz, one of his ten saves. Moments later, Martin Fevre's header glanced off the crossbar off Fowler's corner kick.

Goucher extended its lead to 3-1 in the 85th minute as Jeremy Hardy was able to get the ball near the top of the box and slot it into the right side of the net.

Shane Votto had a chance in the 87th minute off another corner kick, but his header was saved at the left post. Votto got another chance a minute later, and came through with his second of the season. Andrew Sandridge beat his defender down the left sideline and crossed the ball into the middle of the box, where Votto was waiting to head it home.

With time winding down and the Jays down to their last chance, Fowler sent one last corner into the box, and Fevre became the hero, heading home the corner for his third of the season to tie the game at 3-3, forcing the game into overtime.

E-town outshot Goucher 5-1 in the overtime periods, forcing Stolarz into three more saves. The Blue Jays finished with 23 shots total to 16 for the Gophers. They also finished with a 14-8 advantage in corner kicks.

The Blue Jays will play host to Drew this Saturday at 2 p.m. in a pivotal Landmark Conference contest. E-town and the Rangers are both tied for third in the standings with two games remaining. Saturday is senior day for the Blue Jays.
