ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Andrea Keady scored twice for the second straight game, with goals coming 49 seconds apart in the first half of Elizabethtown's 4-1 Landmark Conference win over Susquehanna Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays outshot the Crusaders 23-5 over the course of the game, including 16-1 in the first 35 minutes.
Alyssa Aichele and
Taylor Alwine also scored for E-town.
Elizabethtown (7-5, 2-1 Landmark) took control of the game early and did not let up. After an early Susquehanna (6-7, 1-2 Landmark) penalty corner that did not generate an opportunity, the Jays were on the attack.
Nicole Leaf and
Emma Christman both had chances to get E-town on the board stopped by Crusaders' goalie Alyssa Rothman. Though, with a little over 15 minutes gone, the Blue Jays' persistence finally paid off.
An E-town penalty corner was cleared out by Susquehanna, but Leaf corralled it and sent the ball back into the circle. Keady was ready and got a deflection on the ball, which beat Rothman, for her first of the game and fifth of the season.
Not even a minute went off the clock before Keady struck again. Alwine found Keady for her second of the game, sixth of the season, and her second straight two-goal game.
The Crusaders did respond three minutes later on Emily Novakovich's goal, but despite a 2-1 lead at the time, the Jays still had control of the game.
Aichele, active on the attack all game for EC, finally got one to go at 27:43 of the first half. The ball came into the circle and Aichele deflected it on goal. Rothman made the save, but Aichele pounced on the rebound and put it home for her fifth of the season to give E-town a 3-1 lead.
Alwine made it 4-1 in the second half off a Jays' corner.
Emily Mason played the ball out to Alwine at the top of the circle, and her blast took a deflection off a defender and into the cage for her fourth of the year.
Selene Jones only needed to make three saves in the win, but the three she made in the second half were important. Susquehanna took a miscue on an EC corner back down the field, with Brodie Ercole bearing down on the Jays' goal. With another Crusaders' attacker in the circle, Jones stood her ground and saved Ercole's attempt at goal.
The senior goalie made back-to-back saves on Julia Hasircoglo and Novakovich with a little over five minutes remaining to stem any kind of Susquehanna comeback.
The field hockey team remains at home, playing host to Moravian on Wednesday, October 15 at 4:30 p.m.
