ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- A balanced attack and a near 60 percent success rate from the floor carried visiting Albright College past the Elizabethtown men's basketball team 72-58 in a Commonwealth Conference game Saturday afternoon at Thompson Gymnasium.

E-town got a standout effort from sophomore Joe Schwalm, who led all scorers with 20 points, but it was not enough to slow the Lions. Albright (13-8, 4-6 CC) built a 35-29 lead at halftime on 14-of-26 shooting. Kyle Jordan scored 10 first half points, while leading scorer Derek Hall had seven.

Schwalm gave the Blue Jays (8-12, 4-6 CC) a brief two-point lead 4:31 into the game with his third bucket in the game's opening minutes. Schwalm scored six of E-town's first seven points and was the main reason the home side was as close as it was at the half. 16 of Schwalm's 20 came in the half, on a very productive 7-for-9 effort and 2-of-3 from downtown.

In search of a season sweep of the Blue Jays, Albright pushed its lead to 16 soon after the teams returned to the court for second half action. Jordan's six points, plus four each from Hall and Pedro Perez fueled a 14-4 run that had Albright ahead 49-33 at the 15:38 mark.

As good as the Lions were in the first half, their shooting actually picked up in the second half. Seventeen of the visitors' 26 attempts in the final 20 minutes found the bottom of the net, a scorching 65.4 percent. All told, the Lions were 31-of-52 in the game for 59.6%. The Jays made just 20-of-54 attempts for a 37 percent shooting clip.

Hall, averaging nearly a double-double per game, turned one in Saturday with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Jordan totaled 16 points and four blocks. Perez had 14.

Marquette University transfer Dave Singleton had a stat-stuffing day for Albright with nine points, nine boards, six assists and six steals.

The 20 points from Schwalm accounted for over a third of E-town's (8-12, 4-6 CC) points. Phil Wenger scored nine points on 3-of-7 shooting. The Lancaster Catholic grad also finished with team bests of eight rebounds and eight steals. He came glaringly close to a triple-double.

Senior Kyle McConnell, who was honored prior to the team's Senior Day game along with Dan Silver and injured Brian Allport, racked up a team-high five assists. McConnell ran his career total to 327, seventh most in program history.

E-town's playoff hopes took a hard hit as the Lions moved into a tie for fifth in the conference with the Jays, but hold the tiebreaker with two head-to-head wins. E-town will have to go on the road twice next week to try and recover from a pair of setbacks this week. The Jays are at Lebanon Valley Wednesday night before traveling to Alvernia next Saturday afternoon.
