Blue Jays can't solve Christakos, Ursinus

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Ursinus pitcher Steve Christakos fired a complete game eight-hitter Thursday morning as the Bears downed the Elizabethtown College baseball team 5-1 at Fort Pierce, Fla. Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was washed out by rain.

Steve Motika led the charge for E-town (3-6) at the plate. Motika had two hits and scored a run on Tyler Clark's RBI single. Clark finished 1-for-3 in the game, which began bright and early at 8:45 a.m.

Though the Jays were able to rack up eight hits, no one outside of Motika had more than one.

Todd Leister started and pitched 5.1 innings of solid ball. Leister struck out six and walked three in his outing. He allowed four runs, three of the earned variety.

Freshman Vaclav Hasik came on to finish the game throwing 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.

Christakos struck out four in going the distance. The only run he allowed came in the first inning. For Ursinus offensively, Brandon Sullivan was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Danny Ludwig was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and an RBI.

Elizabethtown finishes its Florida swing 2-4 and will now get ready for a non-conference game at York (Pa.) on Mar. 15.
