Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Susquehanna slips by E-town, 67-65

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Elizabethtown College men's basketball cut a five-point deficit to one in the final minute of a non-conference game at Susquehanna Wednesday night, but Phil Wenger's 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark, and the Crusaders walked away with a 67-65 victory.

Freshman Will Schlosser did his best to keep E-town afloat early. Schlosser scored 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting in the opening 20 minutes, as the Jays (1-6) went just 9-of-25 from the floor as a team. Andrew Mantz was the only other E-town player to score more than two points in the half. He had six, and Susquehanna (2-4), led by Spenser Spencer's 17 points, went to the locker room ahead by 10, 32-22.

Schlosser, son of head coach Bob Schlosser, would continue to pour in points in the second half, tallying nine more on the way to a career-high 20. This time he had more help, though. Sophomore Joe Schwalm scored 16 of his 18 points in the frame, 12 of those coming on a 4-of-5 performance from downtown. Mantz had 10 second half points to finish with 16 for the night.

Spencer totaled a game-high 28 points, while Crusader teammate Matt McGugan had 10.

Susquehanna led 66-61 with 90 seconds left in regulation following a pair of Mike Perillo free throws. Wenger got a layup, and Mantz a steal and a dunk to cut the lead to three in a matter of 12 seconds. The Crusaders were able to kill 20 seconds of crucial clock time before Schlosser could foul McGugan with eight seconds left. McGugan hit 1-of-2 and Elizabethtown had plenty of life, down just a pair, but Wenger couldn't find the magic to put the visitors over the top.

The win was Susquehanna's second straight against E-town on its home floor. The Blue Jays last won at O.W. Houts Gymnasium during the 2006-07 season, when Susquehanna was still a member of the Commonwealth Conference.

E-town hosts Scranton Saturday at 5 p.m.
