ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Alessandra Valdetara scored 41 seconds into the match, and Moravian College made the lead hold up in a 1-0 victory over Elizabethtown College in non-conference women's soccer action at Ira R. Herr Field on Saturday afternoon.
Valdetara took a pass from Tara Alberse and fired home the only goal of the contest as the Greyhounds (3-3-1 overall) withstood an offensive barrage by the Blue Jays (2-3-0 overall). Elizabethtown finished with a 21-4 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks over Moravian, but could not net the tying goal.
Elizabethtown's best scoring chance came with 13 minutes remaining, as
Laura Wingert had a one-on-one with Moravian keeper Sarah Halpin following a turnover, but Halpin made the save to preserve the shutout.
Halpin finished with 11 saves on the afternoon for the Greyhounds, while
Kristen Kelly played the first half for the Blue Jays and made one stop and
Jess Manchak played the second half without facing a shot on goal.
