GLENSIDE, Pa. – Katie O'Malley scored the tying goal on a penalty kick in the 77th minute and scored the game-winner on a free kick 45 seconds into double overtime as Arcadia University rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Elizabethtown College 3-2 in a Commonwealth Conference women's soccer matchup on Saturday afternoon.
O'Malley also assisted on the first goal of the game for the Knights in the 70th minute as Arcadia (13-0-3 overall, 5-0-0 Commonwealth) avoided their first loss of the season at the hands of the Blue Jays (7-8-0 overall, 3-2-0 Commonwealth).
Katelyn Roderick scored both goals for Elizabethtown, converting a pass from
Erin Scott at 43:02 and firing home a penalty kick at the 63-minute mark to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.
With the weather and field conditions deteriorating, the Knights got on the scoreboard at 69:20 as a free kick by O'Malley went off the crossbar and Jessica Leathem put home the rebound. O'Malley then knotted the score seven minutes later with a penalty kick, sending the game to overtime.
Each team had just one shot in the first 10-minute overtime period, and O'Malley's blast was the only shot of the second overtime stanza. For the game, each team took 12 shots at goal.
Kristen Kelly started in goal for the Blue Jays and made four saves, departing the contest after Arcadia's first goal.
Jess Manchak played the final 32 minutes and finished with one stop for Elizabethtown, while Jacki Law went the distance and made six stops for Arcadia.
