Andrew Kummerer, a 2006 Elizabethtown College graduate, is in his second season as an assistant coach with Skip Roderick and the men's soccer team in 2013.
Kummerer was a four-time All-Commonwealth Conference First Team honoree from 2002-05 while wearing the blue and gray. He was named Commmonwealth Rookie of the Year after putting up a team-high 17 points (six goals, five assists) in 20 games in 2002, and was voted to NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region teams in 2004 and 2005.
In his debut season coaching with his former team, Kummerer mentored a team that won nine games while playing one of Division III's toughest non-conference schedules. The Blue Jays were put to the test numerous times early in the season, facing two top 20 teams in No. 5 Franklin & Marshall and No. 16 Susquehanna, and an eventual NCAA qualifier in Misericordia. Those experiences challenged the Blue Jays, but paid off in league play when they went 7-1-1 against the Commonwealth to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament.
E-town improved its win total in 2013 with a 10-6-4 record and returned to the Commonwealth Conference Final for the first time since 2010. The blue and gray earned draws against top 25 foes No. 10 Scranton (2-2) and No. 25 Franklin & Marshall (0-0). For the second straight season, Elizabethtown collected seven conference victories.
Originally from Glenmoore, Pa., the forward produced 18 goals and 22 assists for 58 points over 73 career games at Elizabethtown. He made 65 starts for the Blue Jays, with his best season coming as a junior in 2004 when he struck for seven goals and seven helpers in a 21-point campaign. Kummerer was also a team captain during his junior and senior seasons.
During his collegiate playing days, Elizabethtown never won less than 14 games in a season, and never lost more than four. He led the Blue Jays to a Commonwealth Conference Championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2004, CC Runner-up finishes in 2003 and 2005, and the CC Semifinals in 2002.
In the 2004 CC Final, Kummerer set up Brian Healy's game-winning goal in double overtime to down sixth-ranked Messiah, 1-0, and earn E-town its first conference title of the new millenium. Kummerer also assisted on another Healy goal in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament against Johns Hopkins, a game Elizabethtown tied 1-1, before falling in penalty kicks.
Kummerer holds a United States Soccer Federation "D" License. Outside of the college game, Kummerer coached the Spirit United SC youth team, of which he is an alum, from 2007-13, before taking over as coach of the coach of Continental FC in 2013. Kummerer has served as co-camp director with Star Soccer Academy for the past two years as well.
