Former Hofstra University standout and three-year Major League Lacrosse veteran Joe Kostolansky is in his first year as an assistant coach with the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team.
Kostolansky joins Terry Corcoran's staff after previous collegiate coaching stops at Skidmore College, Nazareth College, University of Vermont and Arizona State University.
During his college playing days at Hofstra, Kostolansky was an America East First Team All-Star at attack and a Colonial Athletic Association First Team All-Star. He is still tied for 13th on Hofstra's single-season goal list, scoring 37 during his senior season (2003). Twice Kostolansky topped the 50-point mark while with the Pride, including a career-high 60 points in 2000.
In three of his four seasons at Hofstra, the men's lacrosse team earned a birth to the NCAA Division I Tournament. Kostolansky served as captain for head coach John Danowski and was named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Tournament Team in 2003 as Hofstra went 11-6 and appeared in a NCAA First Round game at the University of Massachusetts.
Kostolansky began his coaching career under Corcoran as an assistant coach at Skidmore in 2005. He was the team's recruiting coordinator. Skidmore won a Liberty League Championship and qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament in 2005 on the way to a school-record 13 wins. It was both Kostolansky's and Corcoran's last year at Skidmore, as Corcoran took the Elizabethtown job shortly thereafter.
Two years out of college, Kostolansky got back to playing. This time, however, it was professionally. He was picked by the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse in its 2005 Supplemental Draft. Kostolansky spent two seasons with Rochester and parts of two seasons with the Boston Cannons. He also had a professional stop with the San Francisco Dragons in 2008.
Though he spent most of his playing career at attack, Kostolansky has worked with all positions. He was the offensive coordinator at the University of Vermont from 2006-08 and the defensive coordinator at Arizona State from 2009-11.
The 1997 and 1998 NY State Section IV Player of the Year and a 1998 North/South High School All-American while at Corning East High School, Kostolansky does have one head coaching stint. He was the lead man at Marin Catholic High School during the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
