Elizabethtown College snared one of the well known names in Central Pennsylvania golf circles announcing the hiring of Jim Reed as its new head golf coach prior to the 2014 spring season. Reed finished his first full season leading the Blue and Gray in 2014-15.

E-town prospered with Reed at the helm in 2014-15, despite its status without a conference affiliation after departing the MAC Commonwealth following the 2014 championships. The Blue Jays ripped off four straight top five finishes during the fall portion of their schedule, placing a season best third at the Oct. 7, Alvernia Fall Invitational.

Reed jumped in to lead the Blue Jays in their final five tournaments of the 2014 spring season. Elizabethtown's top finish in its abbreviated time with Reed was fifth at the Commonwealth Conference Championships April 26-27. Junior Ryan Laudeman and freshman Kyle Hakun tied for seventh in the championships to earn All-Commonwealth Conference Second Team honors. Hakun was the conference Rookie of the Year.

Three players registered top 10 finishes for Reed during the spring season and a team score of 324 (+36) at the York College Spring Invitational was Elizabethtown's third best round in 2013-14.

"We are thrilled to have an individual with Jim's knowledge, experience and connections join our staff and assume leadership of the Blue Jay golf program," stated former Director of Athletics Nancy Latimore.

Reed has been a Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) member since 1979. He's held the title of head golf professional at the Hershey Country Club (1987-96) and most recently the Spring Creek Golf Course in Hershey from 2007-12.

In 1996, Reed took on a new set of duties as tournament director for the the Nationwide Tour's annual stop in Hershey, the Reese's Cup Classic. It's a post he held for the entirety of the tournament's lifespan from 1997-2004.

Reed currently serves as the executive director of the Jake Gittlen Memorial, one of the top amateur tournaments in the midstate going back to 1970. The tournament is known not only for its competitiveness, but for its goodwill. The Gittlen has raised over $15 million all-time for the Jake Gittlen Cancer Research Foundation and Institute at Hershey Medical Center.

Reed was involved with the tournament for many years, before assuming his new role prior to the 2013 tourney.

Over the better part of the last two decades, Reed's received a number of awards for his dedication to the profession and for being an ambassador of the game of golf. He was named Golf Business Professional of the Year by "Golf Industry" in 1991, Resort Merchandiser of the Year by the Philadelphia section of the PGA in 1992, and Man of the Year by the Harrisburg District Golf Association in 1996.

Reed brings a familiarity to the Blue Jays home course at Hershey Country Club East that few can match. Reed organized and led the volunteer staff in 2010 when Elizabethtown College hosted the NCAA Division III Golf Championships at the East Course.

A 1973 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, Reed earned his bachelor of science in public policy.
