Biography
2013-14 (Senior): Set new career-bests in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events during his final season as a Blue Jay...All three fast marks came at the MAC Championships...Finished as the school's fastest swimmer in the 100 and 200 free, and was second in the 50 free...Swam on team's fastest 200 free, 400 free, 400 medley and 800 free relay teams...Competed in six events at the MAC Championships Feb. 13-16, with a top finish of 17th in the 200 free...Fastest 50 free time of his career (23.43) was set during the opening leg of the 200 free relay at the MAC Championships Feb. 15...Also swam his quickest 100 free time (50.65) as part of the 400 free relay at MACs...Swam to 100 free victories five times in dual meets during the 2013-14 season...Won three events (200 medley relay, 50 free, 100 free) in consecutive meets against FDU-Florham, Nov. 16, and at Drew, Nov. 22...Won three straight 100 free races from Nov. 13-22...MAC Winter Academic Honor Roll student-athlete for a third straight year.
2012-13 (Junior): Returned to the team at the start of the spring semester after studying abroad in the fall and proceeded to throw down some fast times over the last half of the season...After spending his first two seasons doing sprint and distance freestyle, Malik was relied upon for only sprinting as a junior...Led the team with a 51.01 in the 100 free and a 1:52.32 in the 200 free...Repeat selection to the MAC Winter Academic Honor Roll.
2011-12 (Sophomore): Established new career-best times in four events...Captured a pair of wins (100 free and 500 free) against FDU-Florham Nov. 19...In the team's very next meet, Nov. 22 against Lebanon Valley, he won the 200 free...Competed on four winning 200 free relay teams for the Jays, including in back-to-back meets against McDaniel on Jan. 25, and at King's (Pa.) Jan. 28...Four of his five season-fast times came at the MAC Championships...Finished 11th in the 200 free at the MAC Championships...All-MAC Second Team in the 200 and 400 free relays for the second consecutive season...Named to the Middle Atlantic Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll.
2010-11 (Freshman): Swam at least one race at every freestyle distance as a rookie, leading the team in the 500-yard free, 1000 free and 1650 free...Season-fast times in the 500 free (5:28.09), 1000 free (11:19.38) and 200 IM (2:22.15) were all converted from the Blue Jays' meet at Lebanon Valley's meter pool Nov. 23...Finished 18th in the 1650 free at the MAC Championships Feb. 11...Set the 20th quickest 1000 free time in the conference...Collected All-MAC Second Team honors in the 200 free relay and 400 free relay.
High School: Two-sport athlete at Cherry Hill West, where he swam and ran cross country...Team won a state championship during his freshman season and a South Jersey championship in his sophomore year...Coached by Jessica Naumann...Outside of athletics, he was an Eagle Scout.
Personal: Born July 17, 1992...Son of George and Theresa Malik...Older sister, Jennifer Malik, swam for Elizabethtown College's women's team from 2009-13...Has two additional sisters, one older and one younger...Business administration major with a minor in political science.Â
