TOWSON, Md. -- Junior Ella Smith was a full blown shot blocker this past week for the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team. The Blue Jays began the season 1-0-1 with a tie at F&M and win at Lebanon Valley, in large part to the defensive efforts of Smith. She was named the Landmark Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career.

The Jays faced a stiff test in the opener at Franklin & Marshall last Tuesday. After suffering a 5-1 defeat at F&M last season, Elizabethtown held strong defensively as Smith made a career-high 15 saves in the game, including nine in the first half.

Etown had trailed after the Diplomats broke through in the second half, but a late goal helped the Blue Jays earn a 1-1 draw.

On Sunday at LVC, Smith stopped six more shots as Elizabethtown won their first game of the year, 2-1, against the Dutchmen.
