Seahawks beat Blue Jays in home opener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team was beaten Tuesday afternoon at Wolf Field in the home opener by St. Mary's (Md.), 12-7. Reese Levinson had a team-high two goals while three players had a goal and an assist each in the game.

Elizabethtown fell behind 3-0 in the first, but Levinson's first of the game made it 3-1 with only 10 seconds left in the opening quarter.

The Jays got within one early in the second as Tristan Coleman found Brent Wehland for the goal at 10:37. St. Mary's then countered with two in a row to get the lead back up to three at 5-2 with a little over eight minutes to go before the half.

Casey Lamey and nice setup from Wehland to Coleman once again made it a one-goal game with just under five minutes remaining. The Seahawks added one more before halftime and led by two at the break, 6-4.

SMC took command in the third after Finn Kristan's unassisted goal at 13:33 made it 7-5. The Seahawks rattled off four consecutive tallies to go up by six, 11-5. In transition, Kristan hit Jay Rodriguez with a feed with 42 seconds left in the third.

Levinson ripped a shot with under 10 to go in the game, but Etown would get no closer than four goals as St. Mary's tacked on a final goal a few minutes later and did not allow the Jays another the rest of the way.

Ben Zaitz made 12 saves in the game for Elizabethtown. Ty Spencer had 11 for the victors.

Elizabethtown plays at Stevenson on Wednesday, February 18, at 7 p.m.
