ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team had three points waiting for them with 37 seconds left in Wednesday night's game with Drew. A late
Meghan McGonagle goal was equalized just 12 seconds later as the Rangers stunned the Blue Jays in a 1-1 draw at Ira R. Herr Field.
Most of the first-half play was between the backlines of each side.
Sky Shinnen had the best chance of the opening 45 minutes, which came right before halftime. Shinnen got a head on the ball around the penalty spot on
Bridget Ferrarese's corner. She guided it toward goal, but it was saved by Drew goalie Sarah Crowley.
The Blue Jays came flying out of halftime as
Chayse Flood flicked a header on target, but didn't get enough of it to test Crowley, who made the save.
Drew hit the crossbar in the 72nd minute after a scramble in the box off a Rangers' corner. Etown was fortunate to come out of the play without conceding.
Molly Cirone was close to putting Elizabethtown in front minutes later. She latched onto a ball that
Sara Bean had delivered into the box off a free kick from the left wing, about 35 yards out. Cirone ended up with a second shot on frame from near the top of the box, but saw both chances saved by Crowley.
The real action happened in the last minute of play. Flood got down the right side and crossed the ball in front of goal. The ball skimmed across the turf and met McGonagle at the back post and the sophomore was able to body the ball into the net with 37 seconds left.
Right off the restart, the Rangers got the ball down the field in quick succession and found Emily Zegler, who was able to score just 12 seconds later to tie the game and snatch away a home victory for the Blue Jays as it ended up 1-1.
Elizabethtown hosts Goucher for Senior Day on Saturday, October 24, at 4 p.m.
