WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- All three goals between the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team and Lycoming were scored in the first half of Saturday's Landmark Conference contest at UPMC Field. The Blue Jays scored two of those goals to claim the three points with a 2-1 win over the Warriors.
Meghan McGonagle and
Linnet Laiser each recorded goals for Etown.
The first shot of the game was a goal as McGonagle put the Jays ahead in the eighth minute with her second goal of the season. That came off an assist from
Ella Fasnacht.
Nearly 20 minutes later, Laiser had her team-leading third goal of the season as she finished off the play started by
Bridget Ferrarese's run and cross from the left side.
Lycoming got a goal back minutes before halftime and Elizabethtown led 2-1 at the break.
The Warriors had five corners in the second half, but weren't able to score off any of their set piece opportunities.
Etown didn't allow a shot on target over the final 19 minutes of play and held off Lyco for the one-goal victory and a crucial three points on the road to keep the Blue Jays in the playoff race.
Another big matchup looms on Wednesday, October 21, when Elizabethtown hosts Drew at Herr Field at 7 p.m.
