Hough Steps Down as Head Women’s Soccer Coach

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—After leading the program for the past 10 seasons, Elizabethtown College Head Women's Soccer Coach, Amy Hough will step down to focus on family.

"I've always shared with the student-athletes within my program that it is important to make decisions from your priorities, and family should always be first," Hough said.  "It is imperative for me to put my words into action. It takes a village to raise children, let alone as a coaching mom. I want to be a great coach and leave a legacy on the game and this program, but I cannot do it at the expense of my village in a time they need me most. This difficult decision was made to keep the best interest of both my family and the women's soccer program in the forefront."

Over the course of 10 seasons with the Blue Jays, Hough has led the Blue Jays to 66 wins and six conference tournaments, including an appearance in the 2021 Landmark Conference Championship game.  In 2019, Hough was named Landmark Conference Coach of the Year following up an 11-5-1 season and an impressive 6-1 mark in conference play that saw the Blue Jays reach the Landmark Conference Semifinals.

"For the past ten years, Coach Hough has poured her heart, passion, and purpose into our women's soccer program," Elizabethtown College Director of Athletics, Chris Morgan '91 said.  "The impact she has made on our student-athletes, both on and off the field, will be felt for years to come.  We are deeply grateful for her service and leadership to our student-athletes, the Athletic Department, and the College."

"Most people get only four years after high school to pursue the sport that they love in college, but I've been fortunate enough to have had an additional 17 seasons to do something that I am so deeply passionate about and have loved every day," Hough said. "I cannot express enough how thankful I am for my time at Etown and for the belief Chris Morgan had in me to lead the women's soccer program for the past decade. Being the caretaker of such a special program has filled me with immense joy and pride."

Hough coached 29 all-conference players at Etown, including the conference's Offensive Player of the Year (Lydia Lawson) in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Six of her players earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region recognition, along with one All-American, Lawson, who was named to the United Soccer Coaches Second Team (2019). Lawson was also an Academic All-District and Scholar All-America honoree for the Blue Jays.

"I am deeply grateful for the opportunities, mentorship, and friendships I've gained during my tenure at Etown," Hough said. "I've had tremendous assistant coaches in Jamie Kuntz, Ashley (Chilcoat) Hushon, Natalie Hoober, Kendra Jones, Jessica Weinoldt, and Skip Roderick  who bought into my vision and helped me and the team get better every day. Most importantly, for 10 seasons, I have had the most amazing teams of student-athletes that have worn the Etown jersey with pride and made me so proud to be their coach. I have a strong belief that the future is so bright for this program, and I look forward to being their biggest fan as they create it."
