Men's lacrosse limits Drew to lowest scoring output in 16-6 win

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team held it's fifth straight Landmark opponent to single digit goals as they limited Drew to their lowest scoring output of the season in Saturday's 16-6 win at Wolf Field. Tristan Coleman had a game-high eight points, Lucca Scomillio had a career-high four goals, and Brayden Franey made 16 saves in goal for the Blue Jays.

Coleman had his first of the day 22 seconds into the game as the ball came down quickly, where Finn Kristan found the sophomore for the goal to make it 1-0 right off the bat. A little over a minute later, Jay Rodriguez put it at 2-0 with his unassisted goal at 13:05.

Drew would score early as well to cut it to 2-1, but then they'd go nearly 11 minutes without another goal as Etown built up a 6-1 lead with Scomillio (from Kristan), Jake Woodworth (from Peter Pitrelli), Coleman (from Scomillio), and Kristan (from Pitrelli) each scoring goals.

Riley Zeer made it 6-2 with 29 second to go in the first, but the Jays would have the last laugh as Coleman found Kristan with five seconds showing to send the game into the second with Elizabethtown ahead 7-2.

Less scoring in the second, but the advantage belonged to the Blue Jays, 3-1. Each team scored once 50 seconds apart in the first five minutes of the quarter. Reese Levinson had the goal for EC at 10:55, but Drew came right back with theirs from Mike DeMayo at 10:05.

Coleman recorded a pair in the final 8:26, including another last-second tally with five seconds before halftime. Out of a timeout, the Rangers weren't able to generate a shot on target and ended up with a clock violation with under 20 seconds remaining. Elizabethtown was able to outlet off the restart and get down the field where Coleman could sneak in front of goal to score.

The Rangers had won 10 of the 12 face offs between the second and third quarters, forcing the Jays' defense to have to step up in order to get the ball back. Elizabethtown generated 10 caused turnovers and Drew had 20 overall in the game to go along with Franey's 16 saves. Alex Scholl led the way with two CTs with Joel Maragoto, Gio Raso, and Ben Clark each recording one among the defensive starters.

Not in a rush to get down and score, the Blue Jays utilized their time of possession on the attack to convert chances. Etown won the third quarter battle 4-2 with goals from Coleman and a third-quarter hat trick by Scomillio. His final goal with 16 seconds left in the third was his fourth of the day to set new his single-game career high. Rodriguez, Levinson, and Coleman each assisted on his three third-quarter goals.

Alex Ly and Brent Wehland (from Joey Killpatrick) each scored in the fourth.

Elizabethtown will play at Moravian on Wednesday, April 9, at 7 p.m.
