ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Kelty Oaster became the first-ever Elizabethtown College women's track & field national champion on Saturday at the Golisano Training Center.
Oaster broke her own school record in the 800 meter in the preliminaries on Friday to auto qualify for Saturday's final.
She was given the 1 position, where she started against the rail in lane one. Fortunately, Oaster got out strong without getting pinched or boxed in.
Oaster maintained reach with the front runners and coming around the final turn, kicked it into gear. She was able to outstride Augustana's Lina Maatouk to the line and cross in a new facility, school, and Landmark Conference record time of 2:07.70.
She is the first since Carrie Kerna and Melissa St. Clair in 2004 (indoor & outdoor) to finish as an All-American in consecutive NCAA Championships. Oaster is the program's first All-American indoors since Jenna Niedermayer's eighth-place finish in the triple jump in 2013 at North Central College.
