HAMPTON, VA. -- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team began its two-day stay in Virginia with a win over St. Vincent before falling to Ferrum.
The Blue Jays and Bearcats met for the first time in a dual setting. Etown recorded four pinfall victories and a tech fall on their way to a 35-15 win over St. Vincent. The Jays will take on Ferrum in their second dual Friday. Ferrum beat Marymount (Va.) in their opening match.
ELIZABETHTOWN 35, ST. VINCENT 15
Elizabethtown trailed for much of the match until Davis scored his second tech fall of the day and ninth of the season that gave the Jays a 21-19 lead. Beers didn't concede a point in his bout and won via tech fall 15-0 at 157. That brought Etown within four after trailing 13-4. Cope had won by major decision with a late takedown to finish the day 2-0. Cope was up 5-0 in the third before getting Trent Proctor late.

Ganon Smith posted a 12-2 major decision. Returning all-american Rayshawn Dixon clinched the match for the Panthers at 285.
FERRUM 25, ELIZABETHTOWN 21
Elizabethtown will face Averett tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 p.m. A win would put the Blue Jays into the fifth-place match. A loss would put Etown into the seventh place match.
